COOL BAGS

11:25 am Blog

There are some objects that are so banal and part of our daily life that I totally ignore them. However when designers challenge the way that I look at something, it gives me this tingle of excitement. Its like another layer or perspective is revealed.

I have always been obsessed with packaging, hence why my sister and I work so closely on all the packaging for my music. Although I will admit to often buying things only because of the packaging. Even if its some embarrassing woman’s product that I would never ever use! LOL

I came across these bags by accident on the Internet the other day and loved them. Check em out

i think a good packaging increases the value of what is inside.
it’s not a matter of being ‘formal’. it’s a matter of aestethics (maybe the spelling is wrong…sovvy cazgirl! ;)).
i love packaging too, thanks for this.
i wonder what next album one will be…i’m SO curious.
    take care

I don’t like bags, they hurt my poor little hands or the straps on them break. I’ve had 5 school bags break in less a year!!! Mika, you’re a smart guy. Please invent a bag that looks like a rucksack that don’t break! Love you!

I once bought a shirt in a shop were they had this brown paper bags, but they decorated each bag per hand, so each bag was unique. Still have the bag, lost the shirt:-).

I just love it when objects that we use daily are specail in a way or other, like the USB stick that comes with Amelia’s magazine.(Still thankful for this blog, even when it got me in a bit of a financial breakdown);-)

I love them, although I wouldn’t like to walk around with my hand in someones mouth :) But they are really clever and charming, especially the second.

I also tend to do that, for example I often buy cosmetics (that I’ll never use) and ehm,.. that can be really stupid somethimes but I just can’t help it :S

That is quite clever! At first, I wasn’t sure what you found interesting in it, ’til I saw the third pic. I can’t say that I’ve ever really got excited about packaging, to me it’s just a means to an end, but I guess it’s how you look at it.
Sorry I’m on my phone looking at these and the other pics loaded slower, so I’ve only just seem the mouth bag, ha ha, very good!
Like the skipping rope handled bag. Why can’t Sainsburys do fun bags like that?

    Coucou Mika,

    Mika,
I totally am in your packaging obsession.
When I was a child, I used to use my eyes watching the marvellous fake Christmas presents through the Galeries Lafayettes windows, although I knew perfectly well that they were empty.
I’m still close to thinking that an empty, but nicely and self-packed present may be the perfect gift.
When is it your birthday already ?

I guess I’m just being lucky to be the first in commenting this post. (or am I?)

I love these bags. I have a friend working on Marketing, and she’s always talking about the banality of today’s advertisement. But, for sure, this is quite effective in calling for our attention.

Btw.. I’m Mexican, and moved to Switzerland (for Grad School) just in time to be at Paleo.. it was so exciting!

Comme quoi, il suffit de peu pour donner une toute nouvelle âme à l’objet ultra banalisé de notre quotidien… ça notre ami Marcel Duchamp l’avait bien compris ^_^’

I love packaging! Like you, I buy the package and if I don’t like the actual product inside, I sometimes buy my favourite soaps and lotions and put it inside the package I like. Take this for example:

Now look at this - is it a WALLET or a PURSE. Ha ha.

i also buy things for their packaging but at the moment i’m keen on buying non-plastic bags and looking for things that come in the less packaging as possible. yout bags look very cool. where did you get those from?

    MIKA!
Amusing bags. At once there was a desire to think up similar pictures for bags… The Swing, a tail of the elephant or the cow… We even in the childhood drawing in ink mouthe to bags ;-)

Nice bags! I think everyone has mentioned it but the second one is really touching.

I went reading through your comments and saw some other interesting bags as well. Its very inspiring.

I’m not that into packaging but i do appreciate it. Maybe i’m werid becaus ei care more about what’s in something then what’s on the outside.

Yeah but I totally agree with what you said about appreciating things that make you view the world from difference perspectives, especially if they are so simple.

Anyways! I hope your stomach feels better now.

    hi mika!
    that`s really cool!
i really like the idea of packing!
i must admit too i bought things sometimes only because of the bags.. lol
some of those bags were really cute! i couldn`t resist! hhahahah

    see you!

  174. Cynthia Mulat :

To further elaborate on part where i mentioned my appreciation for whats on the inside, i was meaning in terms of other things not just gifts.

The flips side to that is, i do appreciate packaging that is done elaborately because of the time effort and heart that the person doing it put into their creation. Like your cd over, for instance. And when giving gifts i try to do that same for other people because i know how much they appreciate it. What i was saying above was more about recieving as opposed to givng.

    Blah!

    Love!
    C

Je vois que tu nous as encore trouvé quelque chose de super génial!!!!! Ils sont vraiment trop top ces sacs, ils sont à la fois marrants et intelligents puisque le 2ème par exemple nous parle de l’autisme!! Mille merci
    I miss you

Big kiss with all my love
    See you soon

Great bags ! from which country does the autism one come from ? It is really great ! I just hope it will work…

It reminds me of this campaign to promote adoption in India using a shadow :

Gros bisous !
PS: c’est vrai ça, à quand le deuxième ” Where in the world ? ”

Wha it is well found! I like it! Can we find them in London? I shall be in London since Friday, so I want to buy a lot of things only available to you! I like bags also, but I my trick it is more the labels of clothes! When they are attractive and original, that gives me express envy to buy the thing! Later I post it in my bedroom:) I wanted to ask you, is ” Amelia magazine ” available in all the bookshops of London or only in some clarify? Because I would like to test it and see if I find it as well fun as you :) at least I like the design of the covers which you showed us!
On it, I hope that you are fine! Big kisses!
When will you make us a second ” Where in the world ? ”

[sorry for my rather bad english :/]

Even if its some embarrassing woman’s product that I would never ever use!

Mika! OMG! xDDD I know, I know, shop assistants may look at you in a weird way, but you don’t have to stop buying nice things in cute bags for that!

(apart from that, you have 3 lovely sisters who can buy them for you ;))

Loved the designs! Specially the one of the kid raising his hand. You know, your childhood story seems to be similar to the childhood of an autistic child…So it’s really nice to tell people they can do something to make those kids feel better.

    Hasta luego! Cuidate!
    Te quiero mucho

Oooh I love cool packaging! I also often buy things that I don’t want, need or use, just because they look nice and well presented.

So what do you think of something like this for your new cd:
