Wow Mika! I have missed you so much since I wasn’t able to comment while in Lebanon. Just arrived today and enjoyed it shopping, remembered you. I’ve noticed that you still didn’t blog about how to send you a gift and I am indeed very curious - so please try. Your birthday is in a week and it only takes 5 minutes to blog a couple of words! Thanks.
COME TO JORDAN AGAIN. Since you’re in syria, come by car to Jordannnnnnnnn :D.
Did you watch the short PIXAR videos? AMAZING. I was just watching you on Youtube performing in Lebanon - seemed like a much nicer gig than the one at The Dead Sea. Haha, ofcourse you had to put the most effort in your country. . I have another question: When I get older can I be in your band? :D I’m only 13 now and I can play some piano and am willing to learn guitar. Just if you need a young player in the coming years - please be first to tell me. I can also draw and paint. Nothings wrong with having a kid on your band - thats actually cool! LoL.
[ I believe that we're in this together! ]
Lots of love. XoXoXoXoXoXo. <3
[N o o w ii*] <3’s meeekkss!
Celebrating ur b-day already?! LOL!!!
You look sooo happy there :)aww, I can just imagine how much that meant to you (8 yrs is quite a long time).
Thank you for showing us all these wonderful places…it means a lot since I don’t travel cause of finance etc, but I love seeing new countries and it’s my dream to travel to as many places as possible when I start working! So thank you for not only showing the countries, but also for showing shops/hotels etc.
Oh you didnt tell us the flavour.. Was it mesteka with fuzdok? Now Im sure you dont understand what I wrote lol
P.S I was so happy when I knew youre going to Lebanon and Jordan cause I thought you’d come to Egypt too but it didnt happen
You know what Grace Kelly was No.1 in the radio in the top 100 for 2007!!
Hope you’ll come soon
Pistacho ice-cream is very nice, but for us to believe you when you say that it’s the best in the world, maybe you should do a competition so that the winner gets to go there with you and try it out themselves?
Wow, that souk looks a lot like Cairo’s… so many people!
And I believe the ice cream is delicious… but maybe not the best in the world… Have you had gelato in Rome? at either Giolitti or San Crispino. I think that just might be the best ice cream in the world! But I’ll reserve final judgement until I get to Damascus and try this place..
I love the athmosphere in this video. But now I need to eat a chocolate ice cream….Pfiou sympa l’image, devant son pc avec le gros pot de glace…déjà moins top l’ambiance
I’m not able to watch the video yet, since I’m at work, but will definitely do that later today! Will also leave another comment by then just to annoy you with it
Ca me rappelle Le Glacier Belge de mon enfance à Antibles !! (et ça me donne un terrible envie d’y retourner !!! )
Comment ça a l’air bon !
Bisous.
Tu m’as mis un doute maintenant!
Bisouxxx
Hi!!!
love ur blogs!
but actually Damascus is one of the Oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world but not the oldest Byblos (lebanon) is
Anyway ur blogs are so fun and cant wait to c more of ur trip to the Middle East.

Bonne journée a tous
WOW nearly every day a Vlog, you are too good to us. But we enjoy it very much to travel with you. Maybe your stomach bug came from this icecream ?
Have a nice day
Sabine
your pistachio ice cream looks so yummy what a nostalgic feeling to visit that ice cream bar years later, and time seems to have stood still at this place.
btw lovely shopping arcade.
A good ice-cream shop can make you feel twelve years old again… A marvellous feeling.
I highly recommend Missy Moo’s in Dubbo, Australia, more for the cows all over the place than the ice-cream!
And let me say thanks MIKA, for the first time in my life, I’m actually beginning to learn how to dress my age (being 18, NOT 40 as my previous dress sense implies) purely from the inspiration of your Big Girls - curves are fricking awesome! (Strongly recommend you and Kate Ceberano do a duet - I want to be that woman when I grow up!)
I miss you
Love love me
Big kiss with all my love
Anne-Laure
Hi! thanks for sharing with us this amazing videos and others things, it’s interesting and funny, I have learned so much with this blog, thanks!… that ice cream is seen delicious, of which it is?… continue enjoying your trip,
God bless you!
This makes me all warm and fuzzy inside So, you were about 17 when you were last in that shop?! I mean if you think about the significance of change between now and then, its quite amazing. Look at where you were and where you are. Its strange to me that you were once my age! Not that you’re old lol, just so sucessful at almost 25 now.
Never change, never lose that “childish innocense” as they say. Keep living the way you do. I believe you don’t take anything for granted. The details make you happy, they make you smile. The little occurences that bring back memories light up your face. And as a result light up OURS.
I know its just dessert, but really this video documents much more than that.
When I look to the future, I see myself going back to places that hold memories of sweetness, the kind of rapture that only comes from ice cream
Oh, it looks delicious :O You give me ice cream cravings (I’m a maniac for ice cream).
It’s not ridiculous, I would also travel over eight hours to eat that ice cream with you
Yesterday I wanted ice cream so much but we didn’t have any at home and I didn’t want to go out to buy some so I made my own ice cream. It’s really good actually. I’d never tried that recipe before and it’s so easy. Just mix (2 dl) whipped cream, (1 can) condenced milk and (2 dl) “normal” milk and then you just ad the flavour you want it to have and put it in the freezer. Yummie!
hey mika
that ice cream looks delicious
i wish i was there tasting it with you
going there for ice cream is so NOT ridiculous, i think its great
ahh man, now i have an ice cream craving ;D
hope you are well
by the way, i LOVE your hat <3
all my love
hertfordshire’s number 1 fan
alice
xxxx
YOU MAKE ICE CREAM HOT HOT HOT LOL ;D
Salut Mika,
Bisous.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaah do you have any idea how jealous you make me? Driving eight hours for something you crave sounds like something I would do, lol. I hope you’re enjoying your stay!
I don’t like ice cream……..but I have to admit, as ice cream goes, it does look pretty yummy! It is great to find a place that one has been to before…………..well done! x
what was the flavour of your ice cream?
Is it like in North Africa? Rose, Orange blossom, Jasmin, Lemon…
Anyway it seems delicious!
could you involved people with you when they agree, like Yasmine in the previous post?
We are watching you, but we don’t even know who’s holding the camera and who’s editing those posts…
They are a huge part of this vlogs, so could you introduce them? please!!
obviously when it’s not too private…
weird request?? sorry if I am overasking…
Thanks to everybody who works with and for you Mika, and to you too, making us travelling this way…it’s very generous.
I sure wish it was weather for ice cream here in Edinburgh!!
alas not today:-(
What flavour was it?
I like mint the best but i reckon that was maybe pistachio?
Cool Mika
Vicky xx
Cool that you found the ice cream shop back! The greenish things on your ice cream look a bit odd I’m wondering what taste it was.
Thank you so much for the vlog’s, I love them so much and I learn so many new things from you.
Mikaaa, why do you keep censoring me, LOL! I am gonna start feeling discriminated against soon, haha!
I was going to say that it’s lovely to see all these places where many of us haven’t been, through your vlogs, so please keep posting them. Or even if it’s just footage without you in it, that you have taken while travelling, etc…That would be really cool.
Heck, even things like the european countries “viewed through your lens” I would love to see!
I’m kinda silly that way :o)
Anyway, I hope that your holiday is not ruined by all the blogging; Please don’t feel that this is a chore, and if you must take more time between blog and blog, that is better than you getting totally fed up with the thing, isn’t it?
You evil thing, Mika
Now I want Ice cream too! XD
I guess it was something great to get back somewhere you’ve been before, quite long ago!
Plus, don’t let the camera get stuck off you. Lol, i love it.
THIS WHOLE BLOG THING IS AWESOME! it’s really like everyone knew you personally and hangs out here to share stuff.
Found quite a few other blogs saying Bakdash was indeed the best icecream in the world.
Try this vid to re-live the pistachios: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ay8up1-lLr8
Love these travel blogs Mika, you are actually opening our eyes and our minds as we see what fun you are having in places that many of us only read about in the papers…with troubles and sadness.
You will probably delete this one as well I guess *sigh* (no, really, it’s ok, and in fact I ask that you DO NOT POST this, as it has turned out more like a letter or pm to you than a public comment) but I just wanted to say this to you…
After reading some comments, and observing things in general, I think that if you were to post a video of yourself sitting in McDonald’s and claiming that the McFlurry is the best ice cream EVER, people would start commenting how SUPERAMAZING it is, the BEST THING EVERRRR, and how they love it so much as well, etc, etc…
Such is the power that you have aquired; You’ve become like the piper of Hammelin :o)
Do you know that tale?
Not sure of the name in english actually, in spanish it’s “el flautista de Hamelin”.
Anyway I am not saying this in a “not nice way”, I just felt like making the point.
On a different note: Did you read on Mika myspace that I got married on 27 Jul, and we made our entrance to the reception to the “Love Today” track?
It was amazing, and everyone loved it.
So thank you for the song!!
And my brother also played us a video that he made, which you can view here if you’re interested:
He makes short films and such, he’s quite creative.
He actually got an award for a little animation he made “El vendedor de globos” which is also on that vimeo page, and I think you’d enjoy.
He also used to write and sing songs with his guitar, and draw, etc…
Now I think that he just focuses on his films and his job (web design) which takes up all his time. Such is modern life huh? :o)
hi mika! pistachio ice cream!! one of my favorites! lucky you… im not eating ice cream until i lose few pounds!!!!!!!! (big girls may be beautiful, though its important to feel confident too).

Tu as vraiment passer des vacances dépaysantes.Merci de nous les faire partager.
Oh my gosh you make me dream with all your blogs, thanks:)
This ice cream shop looks very big!
my flat is on the third floor, and on the first one there is an ice cream shop, the ice cream there is realy good, yummy
it’s full of people everywhere…is it always like that? When I go to the ice cream shop, if it’s crowded I’m afraid to drop the ice cream by accident haha
I didn’t understand what’s your ice cream flavor, but those things on it look like cucumber to me
Or Pistachio
I’m so happy for you to have those ‘8 years ago’ memories. Specially after saying in in a documentary that you don’t have a feeling of belonging
Hope you enjoyed the ice cream and everythig you tried!! (I’ve been told that lebanese families enjoy the meals like we italian families. Or even more)
Thank for the video! I love the atmosphere of the souks, (blending of odours, of precious things, meeting with people who can speak about their traditions)….and your ice-cream! My god!
But I know too one delicious ice-cream maker in Le Tréport in France…It’s when you want!
hiya!! i hope u are gonna put videos of when u were in lebanon too..
i just had 4 amazing weeks there (the highlight was your concert!) and got back yesterday, but i wish i’d had time to visit syria as well, it looks so interesting. and the icecream looks similar to the one we have in leb with the pistachios
xxx
Omg! I’m salvating here. Sounds like its amazing.
Seems like such a lovely place. I’m going to have to make a new list of places i have to go.
My travel list is quite long so i’ll have to pick that up sooner or later or just start squeezn things into my schedule whenever there is free time.
awww mika! you looked so happy! im glad you found it! yummm now i want some ice cream!!! hahaha
well im glad to hear from you again!!! cant wait for more!
Hey ho!
Very nice vid!
But I must disagree: the most delicious ice cream in the world you can find in Düsseldorf/Germany!
The store is called ´Unbehaun`!!
It has only five different sorts of ice cream, but they are… delicious : P
Wauw it looks really cool over there! You look so happy :), so cute haha. And the ice cream looks delicious. mjum, now i wanna ice cream too! ;D waah. But i’ve to go ..

can someone plz tell me how u guys comment on mika’s blog as soon as he writes it??? coz he wrote it at 1.38, and the 1st person commented 1 min afterwards!!!!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful town with us. I think the souks of Damaskus are very impressive. You can feel the history there. I really love that. To use the voice and the guitar of Mark as background music made the vid really magically. It makes me smile to hear you speak about the best ice cream shop in the world. It looks awesome. Please Mika, tell us what taste is it? Just to be curious:)))
awwwwwwww
soo sweet!!!
don`t laugh but i reeaallly want ice-cream!! NOW lol
i`m hungry.. i couldn`t have breakfast today and even i`m sick i want ice cream! hahaha
is realy adorable you came back there after all that time and thta your life changed that much
those things that seemed very simple but you never forget…
Hey!
I went somewhere, where they had the most flavours ice cream of Europe, They even had ‘popcorn-icecream’!
I’ve tasted anis, whipped cream, m&m’s, bounty and something else, with a really odd name.
It tasted really good!
Yummmmm.., that looks really really nice! - Usually i don’t like ice cream, but that’s really looking delicious! - &bytheway, i like your hat very much!
On this vid you are airing a lot of inner peace and your eyes sparkling with joy by standing in front of the old ice-cream shop – it’s like you are meeting an old friend by whom you felt good, but you lost sight of him! And now – you meet him again!
This is a really beautiful atmosphere.
You should write a song about this ice-shop, yes! –
yesterday you have written a song called „Lollipop“, now we are waiting for your „ICE-CREAM-SONG” ♫♪♫
HI MIKA!!!
YESTERDAY WE TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR BLOG ONE TIME AND YOU DIDN´T POST ANYTHING!!!(WE WANTED TO SAY HAPPY CHILD´S DAY CUZ IT WAS HERE…LOL!)
WHAT A LOVELY POST!!! WE LIKE YOUR PERSONALITY YOU AREN´T A HAUGHTY STAR.THAT MAKES YOU SO SPECIAL! WHAT A WINDY DAY HERE!!! JUST WHEN WE WERE TO SENT A COMMENT THERE WAS A BLACKOUT!!! :S
THAT ICE CREAM LOOKS STRANGE!!!
BUT WE TRUST THAT YOU SAY YUMMY!!!
IT LOOKS LIKE A CULTURE VERY DIFFERENT OF THE ONE WE HAVE.
BUT THE ICE CREAM HAS NO LIMITS!!!
THANKS AGAIN BY POST THIS MOMENT!!!
BYE BYE WE ARE WAITING FOR THE “TO BE CONTINUED”!!!HAHAHA
BYE BYE!!!
PS: YOU LOOK SO GOOD AS A SIMPLE TOURIST…THAT SYRIANS DID NOT KNOW WHO WAS AT THEIR SIDE!!! ♥
UNA FRASE ARGENTINA : DIOS LE DA PAN AL QUE NO TIENE DIENTES!!!!HAHAHA bye!
Never been to Syria but onr year ago I saw an amazing documentary, on Travel channel, about Syria and Damascus and the rest and that fabulous, 1001 and nights bazaar, the souk. and could never forget that family, the Bakdash and the fabulous ice-cream I hope to taste it one day (they beat it to make it elastic).
MICAAAAAAA!!!! Can’t believe we were in Damascus at the same time (the same year at least). Maybe we even passed each other in the street, why didn’t you say anything??? It’s Fate, I tell you… Hahahaha.
Thank you for bringing back such yummy memories, Bakdash hmmmmmm…. It’s true, it hasn’t changed a bit, although the souk has, it’s more beautiful without all those tiny shops by the walls. One thing, please, I really want to know: is the guy selling the fawlk still there, at the entrance near Merje? I always thought that man had a story, maybe I’ll write it someday.
And that pistaccio ice cream, the best in the world no doubt, so glad we agree in such an important matter! What were you eating just before your ice cream came? Baklawa? Sesame biscuits? Yummieeeeee!!
This vlog is the best thing I could find in my coming home after a looooong day at the dig, wouldn’t be happier if you had made it on Madrid. But look at me now, I’m wanting one of those right now!!!
THANK YOU once again, this time you really made it man! Damascus is one of my places on Earth, always wanted to live there for a longer while, it’s such a special city, isn’t it?
First…I want to thank you for showing these to us…it’s so nice of you…I don’t think there is another artist out there doing this! so Thank you! (which makes me soooooo proud of being your fan)
second…that place was so crowded…didn’t anybody recognise you?
third…that ICE-CREAM…you’ve killed me with that…I’m on a diet…and the last thing I needed was to see you enjoying that delicious ice-cream…with pistachio…:(…but it’s ok I forgive you!
As ‘promised’ here’s ‘the other comment’ I was to write…
The nostalgia.. that must have been kind of ‘weird’ to be entering an ice cream shop that hasn’t changed at all over 8 years!! Wow… and that shopping mall (or whatever the correct word is) looks really beautiful. Makes me realise how many a beautiful place planet earth owns.. Also makes me eager to travel much more than I do now. If only I had the time and money on my hands.. (the irony)
The Italian bloggers are right about their ‘Gelato’ I must admit. It’s probably the best there is in the world and I strongly suggest you try the ‘Stracciatella’ one! You won’t be sorry.. I even bet you can’t get enough of it once you start eating.
I KNOW you love icecream, you could eat tons of it, it’s sooooo delicious! But Miiikaaa!!! What about your love handles???
Sorry I must go, I need to eat an enormous icecream right now!!!
Axx
Oh, that looks AMAZING! I’m such a fiend for ice cream, and that made me hungry! Lol! You lucky boy, so far Damascus is a place I’ve only dreamed of going… But someday! I hope you had a lot of fun, and again, that ice cream looked absolutely delightful.
I actually read your long message and I feel the same way about things.. Probably because we are one of the ‘older’ bloggers here. It doesn’t matter what Mika says, all of his words become some sort of mythe (sorry if I spelled that wrong). However I do think it’s an ‘age-thing’. There’s probably a lot of teenagers posting here and that’s OK. But I do catch your drift, Sara. Thought I was ‘alone’ in that thought
Anyway, I also checked out your brother’s video and wow! what can I say? It’s BEAUTIFUL and eventhough I do not know any of you, I was touched! It contains a beautiful message and holds a lot of truth in there.. Good luck together and enjoy every minute of your marriage with Ryan.
To everyone else: I am sorry if this begins to look like a forum instead of a blog, but just felt like pointing it out..

LoL.

P.S.
Pistacho ice-cream is very nice, but for us to believe you when you say that it’s the best in the world, maybe you should do a competition so that the winner gets to go there with you and try it out themselves?
How cool would that be? (excuse the pun)

This makes me all warm and fuzzy inside
So, you were about 17 when you were last in that shop?!
Love you!
-Mel

Yummie!

Salut Mika,

And my brother also played us a video that he made, which you can view here if you’re interested:
http://www.vimeo.com/1421533
He makes short films and such, he’s quite creative.
He actually got an award for a little animation he made “El vendedor de globos” which is also on that vimeo page, and I think you’d enjoy.
He also used to write and sing songs with his guitar, and draw, etc…
Now I think that he just focuses on his films and his job (web design) which takes up all his time. Such is modern life huh? :o)
His site, with tons of his things, is this:
http://www.ignasigiro.com
Ok, sorry for the long message but I felt like telling you this. I will now stop spamming you!!! Apologies in advance for the long message :oP
Take care Mikster.

Mika…what a particular place!
it’s full of people everywhere…is it always like that? When I go to the ice cream shop, if it’s crowded I’m afraid to drop the ice cream by accident
haha
I didn’t understand what’s your ice cream flavor, but those things on it look like cucumber to me
Or Pistachio
I’m so happy for you to have those ‘8 years ago’ memories. Specially after saying in in a documentary that you don’t have a feeling of belonging
Hope you enjoyed the ice cream and everythig you tried!! (I’ve been told that lebanese families enjoy the meals like we italian families. Or even more)

Hello Mika!
yesterday you have written a song called „Lollipop“, now we are waiting for your „ICE-CREAM-SONG” ♫♪♫
.. don’t take me too seriously …
But still have a sunny-lucky day ☼

¡Mil besos!

To Sara (Sariflor),
I actually read your long message and I feel the same way about things..
