JIM WOODRING, MIKA BLOG!

Posted on July 22nd, 2008 by Mika
Many of you may already know that I always go on about cult comic artist Jim Woodring.  I am indeed a huge fan and I thought that I would post up a couple images to show why.  Woodring lives and works in Seattle. His surreal images stem from his childhood hallucinations and I find his beautiful sense of whimsey completely addictive! This man is self taught, dropped out of a college degree in art history and even worked as a garbage man for a few years.     He is a complete visual Icon of mine. Check it out...

The screenshots above are from Jim's website www.jimwoodring.com and are of his character FRANK. Frank is Woodring's most famous character.  Its the mix of Frank's naivety and total lack of innocence which really grab's me.  If you like the pics, check out the website for more info.

tongue laugh Hi there!

Just wanted to tell you that you got me hooked on Woodring now. I took some time to look into his stuff (not really having seen much of it before) and I am utterly in love with it.

I especially like Pupshaw and Pushpaw, their little faces are just soooooooo cute!!
To be honest I like them all. Or most grin

And in general I like them all, the simplicity and power of the black and white ones, and also the vibrancy of the colourful ones…He’s reallu quite special grin And I mean that in a good way, LOL!

Anyway I just wanted to mention it,and to say thanks for showing it.

I know that you mentioned him a long time ago, but I never took/had the time to really check him out properly like now.

Take care

Sara

P.S.
Btw, did you ever see these?
Worth a look!! We totally Mikafied the place!!!

When the gig was cancelled, we all went to a bar and asked for Mika songs to be played…and the rest is in the videos that I took grin

I guess that part of what I am trying to say is: Thanks for being the medium through which all these people have met and bonded.
It’s a BIG deal.

Sorry about my stupid laugh, and horrid cough; I was sick :-(

I’m not sure if i like it or i don’t.
Same feelings about the art pieces of an artist/songwriter called Daniel Johnston.

I see why you like him! He has some really neat stuff! I went to the website and was there for a very long while. I especially liked the cartoon archives and the captions beneath the images. Thanks!!

J’aime bien sa façon de dessiner, ses personnages et ses décors sont parfois troublants… Son histoire est exceptionnelle, quel parcours et quelle force (*** :-x)...
merci de nous l’avoir présenté smile

It’s great!

It kind of reminds me of an artist I LOVE, Mark Ryden. It’s a little creepy and dark in comparison to Jim Woodring, but anyway, maybe some want to check out his art:
www.markryden.com wink

Love!

hi mika…i didn’t know jim woodring…but now YES!eh!eh!thank you! i’m always fascinated to the crazy worlds’ artists…and i’m always curious to see, to learn and “steal” little secrets, to discover new colours…and jim woodring’s colours are amazing and i think his world is suspended between fantasy and a real interior world that everyone know but few people can express…I’m very happy that you love art and all its expressions( also unconventional) ...oh! and it’s clear i love your works too, i think you could be a total work art! bye angela

lol, my art teacher (nearly three years ago) would have slammed this. I, too, love to draw cartoons and animé, but he told me it “wasn’t art”. WTF? How stupid! (seriously, never listen to art teachers, they’re single minded morons!...the ones i know, anyway…)
but i LOVE LOVE this. Especially the third picture. I love the colours in it.
Thanks for sharing his work. smile

Magnifique !

http://www.kennyscharf.com/welcome.html

Merci de nous faire découvrir tout ces artistes! c’est vraiment interessant !

PS : les commentaires en français conviennent ou nous devons écrire en anglais ?
